About Me

I grew up in northern Michigan playing in the woods along streams and swamps and climbing trees. I played both by myself and in large groups a lot, walking in the woods and pretending to be an Indian. I don’t remember what my first exposure to Native American culture was, if it was a story I heard, a classroom lesson, or if it was just always in my blood, but I loved playing Indians. I’d make twig tea and pretend herbal tinctures (though I didn’t know that word then) and had a beautiful life in the woods. When my family went camping on vacation every year, I’d get all the kids in the campground to play Indians with me.

Later, in my twenties, I was invited to go on a retreat with some Native American elders who were sharing their wisdom, their medicine, and I studied with them for several years. The spirituality of honoring and respecting all life, including the earth and the stones and the water is very natural to me, even though I am a white person with northern european ancestry. During that time I started to discover various oracle card decks in the Native American tradition: the Animal Medicine Cards and Sacred Path Cards written by Jamie Sams, and finally The Mayan Oracle, co-written by Spilsbury & Bryner. This quickly led to my discovery of Jose Arguelles and his books, namely The Mayan Factor, which I studied in depth.

Then, in 1997 or ’98, two things happened. At a party during a transformational weekend in Edmonton Canada the hostess brought out her key to figuring out your Mayan Birthday, and, on a separate occasion about six months later, a friend shared a copy of Arguelles’ 13 Moon Calendar with me. Arguelles had taken the Mayan Tzolkin calendar and mapped it onto the Western Gregorian calendar. 13 months of 28 days in length, and one day out of time at the transition between years for rest and renewal. I worked with Arguelles’ 13 Moon calendar, or codex, and the in-depth descriptions of each solar seal and each tone for many years, breathing and meditating on the quality of the day. I was very excited to discover all that this meant to me on a very deep soul level.

Finally, in the Autumn of 2007, a friend invited me to go hear Barbara Hand Clow speak about her new book, The Mayan Code, and a whole new chapter opened in this work for me, namely the discovery of Carl Johan Calleman and his codex, his map of the Tzolkin on the Gregorian calendar and his many books about the Maya which are wonderful. At that time I switched over from Arguelles’ codex to Calleman’s for two reasons: 1. Calleman’s codex has been accepted and adopted by the Mayan Council of Elders as being the most accurate; and 2. Because when I re-calculated my own Tzolkin signature birthday, it fit more deeply with me, and my spiritual purpose. I was born on 12 Kan, Yellow Coordinating Seed.

So, I share these pages with you because it is part and parcel of my purpose on the planet and my desire to help others create a life that radiates with beauty, harmony, and respect for all life.

  1. Hi
Pleased to meet you – I’m Brielle. As I read this I felt a number of resonances – the aboriginal connection and then the Mayan. I have always had a native mythology floating in my blood somehow. I’ve come into contact and relationships over the years with native peoples and been blessed with openings and changes that were simply natural. Of course you don’t realize anything at the time. I came across a 13-moon calendar in Yellow Solar Seed 2001-2 and it skinned my perception. It’s impossible to tell – one of the most difficult things I try in my life, is to explain what happened to me. I thought after reading your page here, that you certainly know what I mean (even though it is beyond meaning :)

I just started a new blog which I guess will link to this comment, and when I was just finishing the initial post, I thought I would add a bit of Mayan nomenclature just to signify it to me for later. Then I thought, why not add a few tags… then I thought, why not see if there’s anyone out there? I hadn’t really looked on wordpress for any Mayan kin – maybe I did a year or so ago, but didn’t really find anyone.

I’m curious about Carl Johan Calleman and his system – I wonder what tribe/tone I am??

I also came across Barbara Hand Clow in an introduction to the book Pleiadian Perspectives on Human Evolution by Amorah Quan Yin. I was sitting in Nelson, BC having coffee reading the book and a girl came up and said to her friend, “Didn’t your mom write that book.” The girl looked at the cover and replied, “Yes.” This was in the first few months that I had discovered natural time calendar… you know all those trippy synchronicities that happen.

    • Hi again, Brielle! Yes, I do know what you mean. If you’d like I can look up your birth kin on Calleman’s codex but I don’t know how to translate from Arguelles to Calleman so I’d need your Gregorian birthdate. You can also get a Calleman tzolkin/gregorian date book through http://www.mayancountofdays.com which has a key in it. You can also check http://www.mayanmajix.com which is Ian Xel Lungold’s site. He was a student of Calleman. Mine changed from 7 Kan under Arguelles to 12 Kan. Peace Out! Yellow Crystal Seed, Kin 64.

  2. Hi,

Just wanted to say thanks for the wonderful insight you reveal in each post. I am not very familiar with the Mayan Calendar, but use the wisdom you provide to center myself and further my mindfulness practice each day. I look forward to learning more about these inspirations, and have just purchased The Mayan Code- my first book on the topic! I would very much enjoy and be interested in a birth date reading (February 19, 1987). I continue to look forward to the serenity of your posts each day!

    Peace,
    Kelly

    • Thank you, Kelly! I will email you some information about your galactic signature birthday.
      Grace and Hope,

  3. Hi!
I’m so excited to find your post. Years ago I, too found the Medicine Cards and Jamie Sams. Every page in Earth Medicine touches my soul. Her poetry moves my heart into gear.
I have three children (two grown sons and a 16 yr old daughter) who have all asked me if I think the world is going to end in 2012. My daughter is actually mad, “How could the world end when I’ve barely started my life?” So, I was led to the 2012 meetings and want to write more about it, too.
I just told my middle son (who is home between semesters) that I found a book on my bookshelf, The Mayan Factor, that I didn’t put there. He gave me his Mommm smile and said, “Interesting, mom.” But I don’t know how it got there! I can sense the author’s beautiful, open spirit, but do get stuck in some of the details. The Mayan calendars are vastly far reaching.
You mentioned the 13-month calendar–I just ordered one online (13moons.com) and can’t wait to see it. I have a chronic illness and don’t work, so I tend to live more out-of-our-time already and am curious how it works. I will look up Carl Johan Calleman, too. Thank you so much!
    Pam

    • You are so welcome! Thank you for sharing your story. I\’d love to hear more about the 2012 meetings you\’ve attended and your writing process, as well as your kids! They sound great. I like to think of 2012 as a collective birth in time when we will no longer be stuck repeating our history, but free to create more love and share more joy. Blessings on your healing path!
